Woman robbed in library on Main Street

A woman visiting the main parish library on Main Street Monday, October 21, had a large mount of cash taken from her purse that she was carrying on her shoulder.
She was pulled to the ground in the process, before the person who stole the money fled. Three people using computers, near the front door of the library, chased the person who fled the library.
The three didn’t catch the person, but police soon did, and charged Donald Fontenot, 50, 211 W. Wilson St., Ville Platte, with simple robbery. He is being held on a $7,500 bond.
The woman had been to a local bank before visiting the library, and had withdrawn a large amount of cash for a trip to New York.
Police say they recovered cash but are still investigating to determine if all of the stolen cash was recovered.
