Dwyer new SHE assistant principal

Sacred Heart Elementary School’s new assistant principal, Andrew Dwyer, was first introduced to South Louisiana shortly before Hurricane Katrina struck, when he was in the U.S. Navy stationed in the New Orleans area.

So, after returning to his home state of Indiana, completing his active duty requirements and getting a master’s degree in education administration, a license in school leadership administration and other required certification, he knew where he wanted to go.

He had heard good things about Sacred Heart Elementary, and what he experienced confirmed what he had heard. “I was impressed to find the staff works before school and late hours,” he said. “The students do what they’re asked to do, and the parents support them,” Dwyer said.

He also said he is “Grateful for the support of Miss [Diane] Fontenot,” the school principal, “and Fr. [Josh] Guillory.” He said he had heard the staff was impressive, but he was surprised about how advanced the school’s technology is. “It’s decades ahead of Indiana,” he said, as he referred to the “tech books” the students use at school.

Dwyer and his wife Denise, who runs her own business, have five children.
