Trojans take title

VILLE PLATTE -- The Halls of Troy reign supreme once again in the City Championship gridiron classic, as the Sacred Heart Trojans ran past the Ville Platte Bulldogs 40-19 here Friday night to take home the Tee-Cotton Bowl XIV title.

Banking on consistency

The Evangeline Bank and Trust Company is known as the financial rock of Evangeline Parish, but it is only as strong as the foundation upon which it is built. Part of this foundation has been serving at the bank for the past 45 years and was honored at a special ceremony Friday morning.

As flood waters associated with Hurricane Harvey covered the City of Houston and other areas of Southeast Texas, several Evangeline Parish residents risked life and limb as they hauled their boats to assist the Cajun Navy in boat rescue missions. Buoys of hope

A year ago at this time, South Louisiana was hit with devastating flooding that gripped most of the area. Out of the flood waters was born a group of volunteers called “The Cajun Navy.” It came about with a mission of rescuing by boat those residents who were stranded by the flood.

The power of nursing and radio

The Ville Platte Rotary Club capped off its meetings this month with a busy slate. The club heard about certified legal nurse consultants as well as updates to the city’s radio station KVPI. The club was also caught up on Hurricane Harvey and it’s potential affects to the Tee-Cotton Bowl.

Tim Swinnea of Pine Prairie shares the sweet sounds of Gospel music with residents in nursing homes

A Pine Prairie resident has taken the Gospel music of the old camp meetings and tent revivals and has brought them to the nursing homes in the area.

Evangeline Soccer Association holds opening ceremonies

The Evangeline Parish Soccer Association held its inaugural Opening Ceremonies on Saturday, August 26. Parents, grandparents, family, and friends by the hundreds turned out to see the 180 children take the pitch at the Ville Platte Recreational Complex.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Lanell Rushing was held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 30, 2017 in the Pine Prairie Christian Tabernacle. Reverends Barry Gautreaux, Johnny Wilkinson and Chris Juneau officiatied.
