Savoy Hospital to host 11th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk

Savoy Hospital announced recently that the 11th Annual Savoy Breast Cancer Awareness Walk will be on Saturday, October 14, 2017, in downtown Mamou, across from Fred’s Lounge.
According to a release, the walk comes “with hope of increasing awareness, fostering community support, and raising money to make a difference for local individuals fighting cancer.”
Attracting nearly 500 participants each year, the cancer walk is Savoy’s most popular event. “Each year the walk features a cancer-awareness inspired theme,” Savoy said in the release. “This year’s theme is ‘There’s No Place Like HOPE.’ Savoy will bring the ‘Wonderful Wizard of Oz,’ with its message of hope, to the walk participants.”
Children’s activities, food, vendors, and live music will also be available on the day of the event in addition to the 5K race and one mile run for fun. “The best part of the day is an inspiring Survivor Ceremony spotlighting our local survivors,” the release said.
“Last year’s event was a huge success raising nearly $30 thousand with 500 participants and 1,200 T-shirts distributed. Savoy hopes, with the help of its sponsors, that this year’s event will be even better.”
According to the release, the cancer walk benefits the Savoy Indigent Patient Support, which is a 501c(3) non-profit organization. “Savoy uses the funds that are raised to provide a patient assistance program for Savoy Cancer Center patients that is designed to supplement existing patient assistance programs,” said the release.
Marketing opportunity for businesses in Evangeline Parish are also available at The Savoy Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/5K. The release said, “Booth space is available on site on the day of the event. Vendors may sell approved items, distribute information, or host a game at the children’s area.”
Online registration for the event must be completed for each walk participant. A code will be provided for registration for sponsor participants.
