PRAIRIE RHONDE -- The Mamou Lady Demons took care of business on Wednesday, blasting the Broadmoor Lady Buccaneers 52-14 to advance to the consolation finals of the Northwest Raider Holiday Tournament.
The Lady Demons will take on parish rival Ville Platte for that title. Due to time constraints, the Gazette will have the results of that match-up in Thursday’s edition.
Meanwhile the Mamou Demons were ousted from the tournament after losing to the Beau Chene Gators 59-49. It was the second loss of the tourney for the Demons.
Here is a recap of both of those tournament games.

Mamou (G)
vs. Broadmoor
The final score of the game did not reflect the opening period. Both Mamou and Broadmoor came out tentatively on offense, with the Lady Buccaneers taking a 5-4 advantage at the 3:48 mark of the period.
However, back-to-back three pointers from Darelzray Bellard put the Lady Demons back into the lead. As the first quarter came to an end, Mamou held a 12-8 lead.
It was the Lady Demons defense that took control of the game from the second quarter on.
Using their athleticism and quickness, Mamou was able to reel off all but three of the points in the second quarter to take a commanding 29-11 lead going into the locker room.
In that quarter, Bellard hit a tri-fecta of three-pointers for nine total points.
From that point forward, the Lady Demon defense continued to dominate, allowing only three more points the entire game.

Mamou (B)
vs. Beau Chene
Mamou fell behind early to Beau Chene, as the Gators took a 15-10 lead after one quarter of play.
The Demons kept it close in the second quarter, with Beau Chene only gaining two-point advantage in the period to take a 27-20 lead into the locker room.
The final two quarters were just as close, as the Gators outscored the Demons by three points in the final two periods combined to extend the lead and seal the win.
Russell Edwards scored 17 points and Mack Thomas added 11 points for Mamou.
