Mamou seeks rebound win at home against E. Beauregard

Mamou head coach Brian Brumfield did not mince words after a stagnant performance this past Friday in a 28-0 loss to Ville Platte.
“I was speechless after the way we played against Ville Platte,” said Brumfield. “There is just no way else to say it, we did not play well at all. I thought I was in the Twightlight Zone. To go from a decent performance against Basile in the jamboree, to the way we played Friday was not the progress I was looking for. But what was crazy was the fact that we had some great practices leading up to the game.”
The biggest disappointment in Mamou’s performance against the Bulldogs was the inefficient running game. The Demons could only manage -17 yards on 22 carries. This is a major area of concern for Brumfield considering the fact that Mamou had run the ball decently in the scrimmage and the jamboree.
“We just had too many breakdowns up front on offense,” stated Brumfield. “When we watched the film, we saw a lot of mistakes on assignments. We will definitely be working on that area very hard all week long. As a team, you have to run the football to be successful.”
In fact, Brumfield and his coaching staff attempted a wake-up call on Monday. The Demons began practice at 6 a.m., a day off of school for the players because of Labor Day.
“We got them out there early in the morning to see how the loss affected them,” commented Brumfield. “It was a way to test their desire. We had just about everyone there with the exception of a few that had already told me they would not be in town. I thought it went well. They got after it pretty good.”
Mamou will need to regroup quickly, as they will face a tough East Beauregard team at home tomorrow night. The Trojans are 0-1 after losing to Ascension Episcopal 47-0 this past Friday.
“East Beauregard is not fancy in what they do,” said Brumfield. “They are two tight, foot to foot and try to run it down your throat. They have some really good backs and run their offense perfectly. We will have to try take advantage every time we have the ball because their offense is designed to hold on to possession.”
