Magnolia Garden Club completes post office project

The November 12, meeting of the Magnolia Garden Club was hosted by Joyce Coreil. President Hazel Fontenot presided over the meeting. Member Theresa Reed was able to attend the meeting after an illness, and her daughter Sally, was her guest.
The Garden of the Month/Civic Pride Award of Merit for the month of November was chosen the week of November 18-22. Geannie Ardoin will chair the club’s Christmas lighting contest. The night of the selection will be announced soon. Everyone is asked to light up in honor of the holy holiday season.
Plans were made for the Cleanest City Contest to be held the first week of March 2014. The city, the Evangeline Parish Police Jury, businesses and residents are asked to note the early date and begin to clean up. Other recommendations will be announced soon.
Paula Landreneau and Lola Fontenot announced the club’s plans for the Christmas social to be held December 9.
Randel Graser of Landscape Creations has completed the landscape of the Ville Platte United States Post Office. The bench will be placed soon. The post office officials were delighted over the project and will send a picture to the postal headquarters.
Coreil gave a program on the recycling of odd glassware and dishes found around the house. She used the glass vases, cups, plates etc. to make yard ornaments and bird feeders. It makes something useful and clears clutter.
The social hour was enjoyed by those in attendance.
