LITTER BY THE TON
St. Martin Parish Deputies (from left) Nick Breaux, Clayton Landry and Henry Fontenette supervise a gang of jail trusties working on behalf of Keep St. Martin Beautiful, St. Martin Parish Government, SMSO and the cities of Breaux Bridge and St. Martinville. On Tuesday, Jan. 15, — the first Litter Blitz day of 2008 — 48 trusties and deputies, working from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m,, cleaned up 62 miles of highways 31 and 347, picking up over 12 tons — about 1,200 garbage bags full — of foam cups, paper and other small scraps of litter. “It’s amazing,” said Deputy Clayton Landry, supervisor of the Litter Blitz task force. “If you know or see a friend, relative or acquaintance who litters, ask them to stop. Ask them to Keep St. Martin Beautiful.”
