Fire District No. 2 board discusses repairs at Belaire Cove Fire Station

The Evangeline Parish Fire District #2 discussed a collapsing culvert and rotten gutters at the Belaire Cove Fire Station at their Tuesday night meeting.
“We have two major problems at the Belaire Cove station right now. The culvert there is going to cave in,” said fire chief Chris Harrison, before informing the board that “one corner of the gutters at the Belaire Cove station are rotten, and water is falling from the gutters into the meter box.”
At this time, additions are being made to the Belaire Cove Fire Station to house a new and larger fire truck. For that reason, the board’s chairman Danny McDaniel said, “I think that we should wait to repair these things until construction is done, which should be in December, so that we don’t disrupt what the contractors are currently working on.”
During the meeting, the chief also informed the board that the new truck that the Belaire Cove Fire Station will be receiving in 2017 needs to have suction added to it, which is going to cost an additional $1,300.
When it came to deciding if the suction would be added, Steve Thibodeaux said, “If we are spending $400,000 on a truck, then we might as well spend $1,300 for the suction to be added.”
The board agreed, and decided that the suction would be added to the fire truck.
Other items approved at the meeting were:
•Payment of bills.
•Purchase of 10 pagers from K Radio if they are still being offered for a special price of $359 a piece.
•Equip truck 418 with service equipment.
