Hamlin addresses concerns

Aside from the typical business at the Evangeline Parish School Board meeting Wednesday night, October 16, Superintendent Toni Hamlin took a moment to address concerns and rumors circulating regarding school board and employee raises.
Hamlin said she received a call from a local television station regarding rumors of pay increases for school board members, the superintendent and several other employees. Hamlin stated that the school board did not vote to increase member salaries and that she, the superintendent, is under contract and did not receive any type of pay adjustment or increase.
Regarding employees, Hamlin said there were positions that were eliminated and those duties were given to existing personnel. This led to altering the job titles and pay of some employees to compensate for the increase in both duties and responsibilities, namely the assistant superintendent position, chief financial officer and a maintenance foreman position. While Hamlin stated there were pay adjustments made to these positions, it was simply done to reflect the new job titles and duties of these employees.
