On Wednesday night, law enforcement officers recovered a stolen four-wheeler alongside the Turkey Creek Glenmora Road.
The bike, which belonged to Phillip Cavins, was believed to be stolen on Monday, January 23rd, sometime after school from the home of Pine Prairie Mayor Quint West.
At around 9:30 p.m. on January 25, 2017, Cavins was contacted by the suspect – Jeremy Loga – who stated that his friend had told him that he had seen Cavins’s four-wheeler in a ditch in the Lake Cove area.
According to law enforcement Loga became a suspect in this crime after they learned that he returned another recently stolen four-wheeler to its owner earlier on Wednesday.
Knowing this, the 22-year-old victim, proceeded to ask the suspect to send him a picture to confirm that it was his bike. Cavins then asked Loga to wait for him by the bike so that he would be able to find it, which Loga agreed to do.
At that point, Cavins then contacted Pine Prairie Police Officer Ben Bordelon to inform him that his four-wheeler had been located and that the individual that may have been involved in stealing it was on the roadway waiting with the bike.
From there Sergeant Bryan Wiles with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, Pine Prairie Assistant Chief of Police Rick Ordner and Turkey Creek Police Officer Richard McMurray were contacted and were on their way to the scene.
Before making it to the location of the four-wheeler, Cavins crossed Loga on the Turkey Creek Glenmora Rd. headed away from the bike’s location.
Cavins then immediately tipped off law enforcement, which led Ordner to head to Loga’s home. It was there that the 18-year-old was located and arrested, and then later charged with possession of stolen goods.
The day following the incident, Loga was released from jail on a $25,000.00 bond.
