Officers with the Mamou Police Department are now armed with mace pepper guns, and following the proper training the department’s new device has already come in handy.
On February 7, 2017, a MPD patrolman responded to a report of a suspicious man snooping around different houses in the town limits.
When an officer approached the suspect, who was later identified as Mark Skinner, the Mamou man proceeded to flee the scene.
According to the MPD, the officer, on foot, then began to chase Skinner, and was eventually able to “take him down by using one of the new pepper guns.”
Skinner was arrested and booked in the town’s jail for criminal mischief and resisting an officer.
All individuals that will be equipped with these new devices, according to MPD will have had the proper training needed to carry and use a pepper gun.
