Pine Prairie council discusses overgrown grass in town

Properties with tall grass that are infested with snakes and rats was the main topic of discussion at last week’s monthly meeting of the Pine Prairie Village Council.
Mayor Quint West informed the council that “there are things we can do a little better to have things look a little better.”
He then went over the village’s procedures in enforcing the ordinance. “A lot of people are under the impression that they will get tickets,” Mayor West said. “The procedures are that the council members make a list of the properties and bring it to the mayor. He then makes judgment calls and sends out letters giving the residents a certain amount of time. If they don’t get the property cleaned up, we go in and charge them. That’s what we’ll do.”
The mayor then confirmed that the fines will be applied to property taxes if they are not paid. He further confirmed that he has a list of properties and that he is contacting property owners.
The council at the meeting discussed the hiring of a night officer for the police department and accepted the resignation of officer Bryan Wiles. The council also discussed putting a culvert by A. C. Hall.
