The Turkey Creek Council held its monthly meeting on Tuesday and centered most of its discussion around installing more lights at the Village’s community park.
During the meeting, council member Neal King shared, “For the last four months we have been trying to figure out an affordable way to add more lights around the walking track at Drouet Park for the people that want to walk at night or in the early morning.”
Mayor of the village, Heather Cloud, then added, “We had to think of creative ways to tastefully light the park, which we believe we will be able to do with the fixtures we have picked out.”
At the meeting, village engineer Adam Janet showed the council the lighting fixtures that have been chosen for this project, which will be placed on a pole about 10 feet high.
The lighting will be placed around the walking track and playground area of the park.
The mayor then shared that Elliott West will be hosting a Co-ed softball tournament at Drouet Park to help raise money for the lighting project.
The tournament will be held on September 9, 2017 and will cost $200 per team. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to repairs for the park.
Cloud also informed the council that Andy Chaddrick will be hosting a trail ride in the near future that will benefit repairs at the park.
During the meeting, the council also heard from Jerrie Ledoux, with U.S. Congressman Mike Johnson’s office.
Ledoux informed those in attendance at the meeting that Congressman Johnson will be in Ville Platte on August 30 for a town hall meeting. The meeting will be held at the Northside Civic Center and will begin at 3:00 p.m.
