The Mamou Police Department arrested Sidney Jones on December 2, 2016 after anonymous tips led the department to begin an investigation into possible drug dealing going on within the city.
Mamou Police Chief Brent Zackery said, “We received a couple of tips about some possible drug trafficking going on in the area, so we began to investigate things more. Once we were certain that Mr. Jones had drugs in the residence, we went to his home to search.”
When officers arrived at 716 3rd St. Lot F in Mamou, they obtained permission to search the home from the home owner who lives with Jones. Upon their search, officers located several different drugs taped to the inside of the toilet bowl.
Jones was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of a schedule II controlled dangerous substance (CDS) (crystal meth), possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a schedule IV CDS (Tramadol) after admitting to officers that the drugs were his.
Since his arrest Jones has been transported to the parish jail where he is being held on an $85,000 bond.
Following the incident, Zackery said, “I want to thank Assistant Chief Phyllis Soileau, Detective Josh Ulman, Officer David Charlie and Officer Caleb Aymond for assisting me in making this arrest, and for their continued effort to take drugs off of our streets.”
