Walter Lee Sr.

September 9, 1921 - April 12, 2015
POINT BLUE - Funeral services were held for Walter Lee Sr., 93, of Point Blue, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 15. Burial followed in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
Mr. Lee died Sunday, April 12, 2015. He was well known to many for the 56 years he served as Clerk of Court for Evangeline Parish. In 2009, he was inducted into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was stationed in San Diego, California, where he lived off base in his own apartment that he loved very much. He had many talents, including making his own violin out of a cigar box, and he taught himself how to play the Cajun fiddle, allowing him to perform with the Balfer Brothers. He had a great love for animals and farming. He served as king for many regional area festivals. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Federal Land Bank, chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Elections and a member of the Louisiana Clerks of Court Association. He also had served on the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees for the Louisiana Clerk of Court Association.
After losing his final bid for reelection to a 15th term as clerk of court, at the age of 90 in 2011, Lee said that his office “is rated one of the best run offices in the state. This office is completely computerized, and I have a staff of employees who are all professional. As the old saying goes, ‘don’t fix something that is not broken’; and this office is certainly not broken.”
Survivors include two sons, Walter Lee Jr. and his wife, Judge Judy Fuller, of Lafayette, and Mike Lee and his wife, Sue, of Point Blue; eight grandchildren, Eric, Yvette, Chad, Holly, Marty, Jennifer, Bree and Jonathan; many great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Taeogne and Agelia Chapman Lee; his wife, Florence Lee; one daughter, Nona Lee; and his brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Lee’s name to Hospice Compassus, 610 W. Pinhook Rd. Lafayette, La. 70503.
