With the 2015 football season fast approaching, all of the parish gridiron teams are pushing through the hot summer months, preparing for the war that is football. This is no different for the Ville Platte High.
The Bulldogs are continuing the rigorous training program that comes during the offseason, so that their bodies and minds will be ready for the battles that lie ahead.
Thus far, the offseason has been a success for head coach Jorie Randall and the Bulldogs.
“It is going really good,” commented Randall. “The kids are working really hard and the turnout has been exceptional. The only problem we have had has been the weather. With all of the rain, it is tough for us to get outside and work on drills.”
The Bulldogs have also participated in a few 7-on-7 competitions this summer. One of those competitions took them to Southeastern Louisiana University, where they faced off against some stiff competition.
“At Southeastern, we had to play against schools like Port Allen, St. Amant, Northshore and Amite,” said Randall. “The kids had a great time and we played well, considering we went up against mostly 4A and 5A competition. We played six games and won one and tied one.”
As the offseason progresses, two players have had shown a tremendous amount of determination and motivation, according to Randall.
“Tralen Thomas and Davon Vallier have both been leading the way this summer,” said Randall. “These two guys have really bought into the program and are having an enormous offseason. We are anxious to put the pads on and begin the season. ”
On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the Bulldogs work out at 6 a.m. and at 4 p.m. Thursdays are reserved for 7-on-7 competitions.
