Hey Ole Miss, have I got a new head coach for you!!

It has happened again.
Another high profile college coach has resigned amidst controversial circumstances.
This time it is Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze that paid the ultimate price, having to resign his position because of what he claims was a “misdialed” number.
Unearthed phone records eventually revealed Freeze’s school-issued cellphone had dialed an escort service on at least one occasion in 2016.
Freeze’s explanation he has given to his superiors. “I’ve got no idea, to be honest,” Freeze told Yahoo Sports when asked about the call. “I was in an 813 area code and that was a 313 number, I think that might have been a misdial. I don’t think there was even a conversation. There’s nothing to it.”
Whether or not it was his intent to dial that number does not matter now. He is out. So, who does Ole Miss get now to head up the program?
Hmmm. Let’s see. Who is a guy who has coached in the SEC before and maybe looking to get back into the profession? Who is a guy that holds a 114-34 record in the toughest conference in America? Who holds a National title and two SEC titles?
Well, land’s sakes, I think that would be the very same grass eating, mad hat wearing former LSU coach Les Miles.
Despite what a number of people think about Miles, the man has been one of the most successful coaches in college football. Since 2005, when Miles took over the Tigers, LSU is ranked fifth in the most wins of any Division I football with 103 victories.
On top of that, 80 of Miles’ recruits since that time have been drafted into the NFL, including 17 first round picks. That tells you a lot about a coach. Not only does he win, but he gets guys ready for the next level.
Some might be saying that it was not all his doing. That he had some of the best assistant coaches at his disposal and they helped recruit those players.
But, here is the thing. Miles hired all of those guys. So, he had a hand in every decision to bring those quality players to Baton Rouge.
Ole Miss fans may ask why would we bring in a coach who was for the most part fired because his offenses were not modern enough for today’s college football game. And yes, they would have concern, considering that the Rebels will start one of the most highly touted quarterbacks coming out of high school in the person of Shea Patterson.
However, Miles may have learned from his “mistake” of being too stubborn to change, considering he will have a signal caller that can sling it all over the field.
And, the storm is far from over at Ole Miss. The NCAA investigation continues. Without a strong coach to lead the program through whatever comes next, the Rebels run the risk of being irrelevant in the SEC for the next decade. Miles could help curb some of that.
The 63 year-old has been through tough spots before. While Miles is most known for his time at LSU, he helped turn Oklahoma State around with three consecutive winning seasons from 2002-04. It may be better for Ole Miss to have a veteran come in and handle this mess rather than a young guy that may not be able to handle that type of situation.
Regardless, it would be very interesting to say the least to see the “Mad Hatter” across the way on October 21.
