Majors, Minors set for Dixie Youth regional tourney

For the second year in a row, the Ville Platte Dixie Youth Major and Minor all-stars have both taken the District 7 championship.
And, for the second year in a row, both teams are headed to regional tournament in the same location, Pontchatula.
The Major all-stars will begin play tomorrow as they face off against the host team from Pontchatula. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
The 12U team were undefeated in district play, going 5-0 and outscored their opponents 44-1.
According to Major’s head coach Stokie Fontenot, the team is gearing up for regional play.
“The team has been working extremely hard in preparation for the this regional tournament,” said Fontenot. “We know that the competition will be much better. We are going to have to continue to pitch well and play solid defense.
Fontenot knows it will take a total team effort to have a chance at winning the championship.
“We will need good play from all 12 players in all aspects of the game if we wish to be successful.”
The Minors will start play tomorrow at 1 p.m. as they take on the champion of district three.
The 10U all-stars were also undefeated in their district tournament. The 10U group were also 5-0 and motored through district competition.
Super 10 Head Coach Eric Fontenot said his team is excited for the challenge ahead.
“The boys are excited and ready for the road trip to Ponchatoula,” said Fontenot. “They are prepared and will leave it all on the field and as a coach that is about all you can ask for. We know that with each tournament we participate in, the competition is getting stronger and stronger. We know to have a chance, we will need to be great in all areas.
