Teenager shot after Saturday fight

St. Martinville — A fight that broke out at a dance in the early morning hours Saturday, Jan. 19 led to a shooting of a local teenager.

St. Martinville Police Department officials report that both the victim of the shooting and the victim of the fight are in stable condition.

Police responded to the incident on Journet Drive near the Early Learning Center.

Witnesses told police that a fight had occurred at a dance nearby which led to the eventual shooting of a 15-year-old male.

Three arrests were made in conjunction with both the fight and the shooting.

Police arrested Krystian “Joe” Marshall, 20, of St. Martinville, for the fight at the dance and charged him with aggravated second degree battery.

Detectives then investigated the shooting that occurred just after the dance and arrested Akimo Hypolite, 18, of New Iberia, for principle to attempted second degree murder and Mark Gardner, 17, of New Iberia, for attempted second degree murder.
