The plan to add new lights at Drouet Park in Turkey Creek is shaping up to be an even brighter project after the village’s council approved purchasing LED lights and new light fixtures through Cleco at its meeting on Tuesday.
At the local park, a total of 16 new lights will be placed around the walking track for the purpose of making the track usable during in the early morning hours or later in the evenings when it is darker outside.
Adding these lights was discussed at the council’s August meeting. However, the village intended to do the work itself.
After securing a $15,900.00 grant and working with Cleco though, the council, during its September meeting, opted to purchase light fixtures for the project and LED lights through the local electricity provider. The fixtures and light poles will be assembled by Cleco and they will also dig the necessary trenches for this project.
The price tag on this project is a hefty $44,852.00. However, the village will only be forced to pay a small portion of the cost after Cleco took nearly $15,000.00 off of that price. The amount for the project in full is now $30,946.00.
The village intends to use money from two fundraisers where $1,000.00 was raised for this project and a $1,000.00 donation from CenterPoint Energy to help pay for the lighting.
These monies coupled with the grant money will leave the village with only $13,046.00 to pay for the total project.
At the recent meeting, the council decided upon using money from the village’s savings account to pay the remaining amount.
Following this discussion the council set its trick or treat time for October 31, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
