The Ville Platte Police Department, under Chief Neal Lartigue, has been working to collect donations for those who have been negatively affected by Hurricane Harvey.
In a release from the VPPD, the chief stated, “I would like to thank everyone who donated items for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.”
Chief Lartigue, along with assistance from Connie Lamke with the VPPD and VPPD officers, teamed up with Kerri Courville - Area Manager (Central Louisiana Market) of AT&T- Live Mobile - to collect donated supplies such as water, diapers, wipes, soaps, shampoo, deodorant, undergarments, etc.
In the release it stated that “in three days over 150 cases of water were donated and enough supplies to fill a truck and trailer.”
Lartigue said, “We are thankful and proud to have been a part of this donation drive. We will continue to be a drop off point for anyone who wishes to donate.”
Last Sunday, Kerri and Casey Courville, who is with Encana of Texas, traveled to Texas with the supplies in tow.
According to the release, “it took many detours and extra hours of travel to reach their destination.”
Kerri stated that upon arrival, “we were met by friendly faces and much appreciation.”
He went on to say, “We saw so many people helping and giving. It was a humbling experience that I’m happy to have been a part of.”
Donations continued to roll in even after Kerri and Casey had left for Texas with the first load, and therefore the VPPD and AT&T - Live Mobile will continue to collect donations at the VPPD and at AT&T’s Ville Platte location.
Chief Lartigue said, “Our donation focuses will be on what is a continued need for our neighbors in Texas and we will keep the public informed as their needs change.”
Chief Lartigue went on to express how proud he is of “our parish residents rising to the needs of the victims with donations of huge proportions.”
He stated, “We are proud to be able to reach out and help those affected.”
If the public would like more information on donating, you can contact the police department at (337) 363-1313.
