Heritage Manor News: Happy Mardi Gras!

Mardi Gras is celebrated each year on the day before Ash Wednesday. The French words “Mardi Gras” mean “Fat Tuesday.” Dating back in time, the early Catholics celebrated and indulged until midnight. King cakes are a part of the Mardi Gras tradition, as well as the gumbo. We had a wonderful outing in Mamou this past Friday to celebrate the Mardi Gras season with our friends at Savoy Care Center. We sincerely thank their administrator, activity director, social service director and all of their staff for the great time and delicious food. We will be having our Mardi Gras/birthday party on Tuesday, March 4, beginning at 2 p.m., in the dining room. We invite and encourage family, friends, volunteers and staff to join us for the entertainment. We will have a costume contest and judges will be on hand to award prizes to the first, second and third place winners. We look forward to seeing everyone at the event.
Ash Wednesday will begin our Lenten season and ashes will be distributed at 9 a.m. in the activity room prior to the start of the rosary. We thank Verna Guillory and all of her helpers for this gracious act each year. Our residents really count on them. We will be joining her and the Catholic Daughters on Tuesday, March 18 at the Our Lady Queen of All Saints Family Life Center for their annual French Retreat.
Activities this week include food committee meeting, manicures, rosary, hot chocolate, Olympic games, in-room visits, arts and crafts, exercise, group therapy and mass by Sacred Heart.
The staff wishes a Happy Birthday this week to Gwenda Johnson and Leanna Gradney.
This month, we will celebrate National Professional Social Worker Month.
