Two very important opening district contests were held Tuesday night for a pair of Evangeline Parish teams, as the Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs traveled to Church Point to take on the Lady Bears and the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers were on the road to face off against the Eunice Lady Bobcats.
Both squads were looking to start the district season on the right foot as to have a shot at the title at the end of the season.
And for both teams that great start came to fruition, as Ville Platte rolled over Church Point 54-32 and Pine Praire knocked down Eunice 45-39.
Here is a recap of both District 5-3A contests

Ville Platte
vs. Church Point
It began easily enough for the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs, as they opened the game with a 17-5 advantage in the first quarter of play, thanks in large part to senior center Tyreonna Doucet, who scored eight of her game high 23 points in the period.
The second quarter was no different, as Ville Platte continued to throttle Church Point defensively. By the time the half time buzzer had sounded, the Lady Bulldogs held a 29-8 lead.
The third and fourth quarters were a little bit more competitive, as Ville Platte was only able to come away with a 25-24 advantage in the two periods combined.
Ville Platte runs their record to 16-7 on the year and 1-0 in district play with the win.
The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Eunice tomorrow to battle the Lady Bobcats.

Pine Prairie
vs. Eunice
Pine Prairie has shown a tremendous amount of improvement this season and this game was no different.
The Lady Panthers opened the game by outpacing the Lady Bobcats 12-9.
Eunice returned the favor in the second quarter, taking a 12-6 advantage and holding a 21-18 lead going into the locker room.
However, Pine Prairie would not allow the three-point deficit to bother them. The Lady Panthers busted open for 27 points in the final two quarters to take home the six point win.
Sarah Vidrine filled the nets with 22 points to lead all Pine Prairie players.
With the win the Lady Panthers are now 9-5 on the year and 1-0 in district competition.
Pine Prairie continues district play tomorrow night against Northwest at home.
