Haley Nicole Jett of Anacoco was crowned Queen Cotton LXIII at Saturday night’s Cotton Coronation.
Jett said, after she was crowned, “I still don’t know what to think. I’m still in shock.”
She continued, “I’m just so excited and honored to be the 63rd Cotton Queen and to be a part of the Cotton Family.”
Jett, 19, is the daughter of John and Pam Jett of Anacoco. She is a pre-medical student at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.
Jett is a former Miss Pecan Festival Queen and Miss Louisiana Parish.
Saturday’s pageant was not Jett’s first trip to Ville Platte.
“I had heard about the Cotton Festival from visiting other festivals, and I have competed in this pageant once before.
“I just started learning about the history (of the Cotton Festival and cotton farming), and the history was just so amazing, and I wanted to be a part of that. I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself and part of a big history.”
Jett shared the mission she hopes to accomplish as Queen Cotton.
She said, “I’m boping to give the cotton farmers and the cotton industry the representation that they need especially after the large flooding and everything that has been going on with the cotton industry. I definitely want to be a good representative so that cotton can become king again.
“I’m looking forward to all the cotton crafts and the dresses and the pictures. I’m looking forward to all of it.”
