Mamou downs O.C.

The Mamou Lady Demons grabbed a 5-1 District 6-2A win on Tuesday.

Sadie Fontenot (13-6, 5-3) earned the win for the Lady Demons as she struck out nine, walked two and allowed one hit.

Megan Briley suffered the loss for the Lady Vikings as she fanned five and allowed eight hits.

OC grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, but Mamou responded with three runs in the top of the fifth.

The Lady Demons scored two more runs in the top of the seventh to seal the win.

Fontenot helped her own cause as she went 1-for-4 with a 2-RBI triple.

Kristie Soileau went 3-for-3 with a run scored

Amanda Fontenot finished 2-for-4, while Katie Landreneau went 1-for-4 with a RBI and two stolen bases.

Leigh Wagley went 1-for-3 with a RBI to lead Opelousas Catholic.

Mamou (17-9 overall, 7-3 in district) entertains Sacred Heart of Ville Platte 4 p.m. today.

The Lady Demons and Lady Trojans (13-7, 7-3) are battling for second place behind front runner Pine Prairie (22-6, 11-0).

Mamou closes out the regular season April 8 at Port Barre.
