ULL and One Acadiana to host legislative forum

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette and One Acadiana are partnering to host a public Q&A forum with Acadiana Legislators focused on the past, present, and future of Louisiana and the nine-parish Acadiana region.

The forum will take place this Friday, April 10, 2015, at The Picard Center located in UL Lafayette's Research Park at 200 E Devalcourt St, Lafayette, LA 70506. Registration and coffee begin at 8:30 a.m. and the forum will start promptly at 9:00 a.m.

The forum will give Legislators an opportunity to discuss challenges and opportunities at the state and local level, major issues of the upcoming legislative session, and strategies to advance Louisiana and Acadiana for the next four years and beyond.

Dr. Pearson Cross, Associate Professor of the Department of Politics, Law, and International Studies at the University of Lafayette; and Jason El Koubi, President and CEO of One Acadiana, will be moderating the forum. Moderators will vet questions from the audience and incorporate them into the forum as time permits.

Confirmed participating Legislators include:
  • Rep. Vincent Pierre, Chairman of Acadiana Legislative Delegation
  • Rep. Stuart Bishop
  • Sen. Page Cortez
  • Rep. Terry Landry, Sr.
  • Rep. Stephen Ortego

"We are excited to partner with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to bring together Legislators from across One Acadiana to speak to challenges and opportunities we face as a region, particularly during this important legislative session and election year, and discuss how we can work together to secure a prosperous future for the businesses and families of Acadiana," said El Koubi.

Dr. Cross stated, "We are entering Governor Jindals's final legislative session needing to place our fiscal house in order.  This pressing need requires us to reexamine past politics and policies critically, while considering what might be the best path to a sustainable future. We invite the public to join us for this engaging Legislative forum just prior to the start of 2015 Legislative session."
