MAMOU - Funeral services were held for Joseph Lloyd Cormier Sr., 75, of Mamou, at the Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Mamou at 1 p.m., Tuesday, December 10. Burial followed in the Assumption Cemetery in Mire.
Mr. Cormier died Friday, December 6, 2013, at the Veterans Hospital in Alexandria. He was a master boat captain for 35 plus years in the Intercostals Waterways in Louisiana. He was veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era as a medic. He also loved gardening and he was a loving, kind and gentle man.
Survivors include his wife, Sophie Guillory Cormier of Mamou; one son, Joseph Cormier Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; two step-sons, Christopher Ryan Soileau of Deer Park, Texas, and Joshua Kent Manuel of Lake Charles; one daughter, Avia Amber Langley and her husband, Jamie P. Sr., of Kinder; three step-daughters, Deborah K. Meyer and her husband, Wally, of Desoto, Kansas, Dianna Waite and her husband, Randy, of Salina, Kansas, and Jacqueline Meyers of Duralde; two brothers, James Carrol Cormier of Rayne and Ivy Cormier Jr. of Church Point; four sisters, Earline Fontenot of Ville Platte, Betty Bergeron and Mary Dupre, both of Church Point, and Sherry Cormier of Iota; five grandchildren, Lauren and Kaytlin Cormier and Avia D., Brittney and Jamie P. Langley Jr.; 10 step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivy and Avia Cormier.
Pastor Terry LaFleur officiated.
